Before founding Magna, I spent years inside some of the UK's biggest investment consultancies. I learned a lot. But I also watched the industry tie itself in knots: noisy, transactional, and obsessed with complexity for complexity's sake.
The idea behind Magna was almost embarrassingly simple: keep things small, keep things honest, and stay focused on the client. We deliberately built a small team because it allows us to remain obsessed with responsiveness and service.
When someone chooses to work with us, they're not entering a system. They're starting a relationship. That's a distinction the industry has largely forgotten.
The goal was never scale for scale's sake. A larger firm means more overhead, more bureaucracy, and more distance between the founder's intent and the client's experience.
Magna stays small on purpose. That's not a limitation, it's the entire point.
Investing is about preservation of capital first, optimisation second. Losses matter far more than gains. Not in a pessimistic way, in a mathematical one. Which is why we believe in slow, steady, and replicable investing.
